We left Delta behind and headed to the north rim of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. The road brought us out of the desert and into the high country once again, where cooler temperatures reigned.
The view to the south of the San Juan range was a great sight to see...
It was good to be back in the Colorado high country.
We stopped for a mid-morning break in Gunnison at a nice trendy coffee cafe.
Later, over Monarch Pass and down the Arkansas River gorge to Canon City and home.
Steve computed with his GPS about 2,750 miles, or just over an easy 300 miles per day. A great ride, one which I enjoyed immensely -- with great sites, sights/scenery, riding, and of course great friends.
My bike, a 2002 Victory TC, averaged about 42-43 miles per gallon during the trip, so I was quite pleased with the fuel expenditure. Dean and Craig usually averaged about 2-3 more mpg on each fill up. And, I think the two BMWs averaged a bit more.
Last I spoke to the folks on the trip, we were all recovering from the ride, even a week later. Is this a sign of age? I think it might be, but well worth it!
