This is a summary of our Spring Ride 2010. I'll post a day at a time...
Day 1: Steve, Ross, Dean, Theresa and Greg started out from Colorado Springs and fully expected to see rain and snow (Craig and Susie were to join us in Antonito, CO later in the day). Luckily we saw neither and road out of the bad weather. We made a point to visit national monuments, national parks, fantastic roads, and of course pie. Homemade pie. We found some good pie and some not so good pie. We found fantastic roads. The first picture is taken in Westcliffe, CO of the Sangre de Cristo mountain range. The only way to the other side is to go around. Only some very rough old mining roads poke through.
We had lunch in La Veta, CO where the Spanish Peaks show their glory... (photo by Greg)
We worked our way down to Antonito, CO, but first stopped at the oldest church in CO, in Conejos... (photo by Greg)
Craig and Susie planned to join us in Antonito, but we decided to head into Chama, NM to avoid the cold mountain pass in the morning. This is a photo from the Cumbres Pass at the CO/NM border. The Cumbres Toltec Scenic Railroad runs between Antonito and Chama, and crosses the road near the Cumbres pass near 10,000 feet.
We stayed the night in Chama, NM, where I caught Dean cleaning the bugs off of his Kingpin. Craig and Susie caught up with us for dinner in Chama.
