Just picked up my new cross country from Armands today. Went for a quick ride as I am on call this weekend. Had a blast, and can not wait to be able to put on some miles. I will keep all posted.

As Victory's new models are beginning to arrive at dealerships, the desire to join the the fray is reaching fever pitch, at least personally. But first, let me put things in perspective.
I've been slowly growing in my attraction to the Vision's futuristic shape. The lines, especially without it tourpack, communicate fo…

section 1008 of the legistation includes motorcycles as " qualified vehicles " and individules purchasing a new motorcycle will be allowed to deduct the sales and excise taxes on their 2009 tax returns.
four senators successfully lobbied for including motorcycles in the compromise measure: Bob Casey, D-Pa ; Christopher Bond, R-Mo., Russell Fiengold, D-Wis., and Herb Kohl, D-Wis.
To be elegible for this " above the line" tax deduction, you must make less than $125.000 ( $250.000 for those filin…

Got my heated gear back from Gerbing's the other day. They lived up to the warranty claims and cheerfully replaced my jacket liner with a brand new one, since they couldn't fix the old one. The Gerbing's customer rep offered to upgrade me to a lighter set, and they would knock $50 off the price (off of $199). I opted for a replacement, and since they had a bunch of old stock around they sent me a like set. I used the jacket the other day going to work and it works great. Now for some nice days o…

Since it is largely rumored I am a dumb guy, I want to take the time to dispel the rumor and remove all doubt. There is nothing typical or cutting edge going on within my cranium. I figure the only way to show the vast expanse of idiocy going on inside my head on any given day, was to let you spend part of the day sitting inside my head and actually observing how a real dumb guy thinks and acts. Please feel free to put your feet up on my frontal lobes and take notes if you wish. Seat belts are m…

Ah, the end of summer, the beginning of intermittent riding season in Colorado. Intermittent because we watch the skies for snow anytime in the high country and rain and cool weather on the prairie. As winter gets closer, we are pretty much shut out of the mountains, although on some sunny days we can ride just over the ridge to Deckers or up for a quick ride to Cripple Creek. One must remember to head home in time or face the consequences. In any case, a set of heated gear is a must for comfort…

I find myself trying to do more riding as the summer winds down. I feel like I didn't get much riding in this year. Quick math shows I put on only about 4000 miles this year, about half as much as usual. I don;t have any good reason as to why except that our Spring here in the northeast was much wetter and the rains lasted into late June. I also got the bike on the road much later than usual. Normally I'm riding by late March. This year, due to a slow chromer (name withheld) I didn't get the bik…

Victory-Riders thought is would be cool to allow folks to track the progress of riders on the V2V Relay in real time as they make their way from NY to CA. We invested in a SPOT gps tracking device and set up a
webpage for all to view riders' progress.Since I would be on the first leg , I used the SPOT on my ride down to NJ to meet up with riders. Leaving my home (near Cape Cod) toward NJ.

8/3/2009 Slow in the making. Logistics are always what you want it to be, especially in the world of fabrication. The leatherman is a one man show and has been swamp over the summer months so far. That is great for him. Had a slight delay as the bag must fit the curve, so I ordered a dash so I wouldn't need to leave my bike. After getting the top dash piece I had to make sure it would be the same as mounted since it is very flexible. He know has that model to work from. He's coming off vacation…

I had intended to blog directly from Laconia Bike Week back in mid-June but life through a curve at me. I did make it to Laconia, but only after I became a statistic of the "new normal" economy. After a lifetime career at Harvard University, I found myself unemployed and facing the new reality at "mid-life." This made my already-planned getaway to Laconia all the more important. It was time to clear my head of the emotion and fill it with the sights & sounds of bike week.…

So...this is my first blog post. I've been kicking around ideas as to what subject I wanted to write about and after some mental to and fro I decided to start at the beginning..at least for me.
I'm sure there will be others with stories that they might want to share and if so, please do...mine is going to be an ode as well as an explanation(hopefully it'll make sense here soon!)
My personal reason that I wanted to ride can be summed up in 2 words: Uncle John.
I was about 9 or 10 when he stopp…

I don't mean to downgrade the Harley's. Victory would love to have their market success. It's just that I feel the day has passed for many oldtime HD riders and especially their passengers. Give the girls tushies a break as they break down in their old age. They earned a soft ride. Here's what I mean. This just happened today.
I was riding back home from a bike night in Phoenix and I stopped at a Harley dealership to take off my rain gear and get a soda. A couple veteran HD riders and their lad…

I refuse to admit I’m stupid, although it’s been suggested by many.
I think that at some point in time I had a serious accident that blew away a large portion of my brain. I really need to investigate this possibility because it would explain so much about me that I cannot comprehend. There are no telltale scars on my skull or pains deep in the lobes of my brain. Yet, there must be something.
Maybe aliens abducted me! They have pretty sophisticated surgical stuff I’ll bet. They would have no p…

I admire people who are handy. You know the type. We all have buddies who, if they really tried, could launch a satellite into space with nothing but a crescent wrench and a gallon of WD40.
I used to be handy in my “other” life. You know. The life you had when you were 20. A 20 year old can do anything, and I mean ANYTHING. What keeps them from getting real cocky is that most are too dumb to know it. After all, they are only 20.
When I was 20 I was maintaining huge diesel engines that were the…

HI there, Sorry for the long time bteween visits here. I have been busy with setting up this years season for Calgary Thursday Bike Night. I'm hoping for a great riding season this year after the snow melts. Well I guess it has to stop snowing first. We have about 50 - 100 bikes at each Thursday and we are growing. If you are in Calgary or riding through, check us out. I would like to hear and read about other similar events in your area.
Thanks Bobby Baum
